The Avengers continues to be a hit at the box office, but now it’s becoming a popular fan film viral sensation, but not in the way you’d think.  Apparently the Avengers is appealing as a boy band!  I know that doesn’t make complete sense since there’s a female on the team, but let’s not get into specifics.

IGN came out with there Avengers boy band video a few days ago, but while it’s great in video quality and graphics, the lesser known, lower quality video from ScreenTeamShow is the better of the two in my opinion…

And here’s IGN’s Avenger’s music video.  Still fun, just no where NEAR as cool as the above.  Just Syain’…

Yes, that’s right folks, it seems The Avengers franchise will continue to grow beyond it’s three movie contract.  Mark Ruffalo has set himself up as the undeniable Hulkster signing on for a six movie journey as the green machine.  With two actors having already tried out the muscle bound monster, it look as if Ruffalo will be in it for the long haul.  Let’s just hope the Hulk doesn’t suffer the six actor toggle that Batman has.

Likewise, Chris Hemsworth has put his name on paper for a six movie deal as the master of lightning and thunder, two of those films being Avengers sequels, and a potential of two more solo films.  Iron Man is already going strong with it’s third film underway, but no word on anything for the Cap’n.

Even as a little kid, I was never a fan of the Avenger’s big three.  (Thor, Iron Man, Captain America) But the Incredible Hulk has always been the hero I got excited about from the Marvel Universe.  Besides the X-Men, Hulk was one of the only Marvel titles that was appealing to me; a story about a man who’s accidentally exposed to radiation which altered his genetic make up, causing him to change into a mindless beast beyond his control calls to my dark and gothic sensibilities.  I’m thrilled to see the Hulk get a serious treatment other than as a senseless promotion for the Avengers.  There’s even talk of a Hulk TV show in the works!

I can only hope for the best, and if the Avengers is any indication of what’s to come, three cheers for the efforts of Marvel!

With the new Dark Knight Rises trailer hitting the viral community like a plague, (I mean that in the best possible way) now the question have arisen…which film will do better, Batman’s or the Marvel Team up’s?

To his credit, Director Christopher Nolan changed the way comic book films are viewed.  X-Men legitimized the comic book film genre, but Batman gave it life.  DKR will, no doubt, be an extraordinary film regardless of whether or not it beats out Nolan’s previous Bat film, the Dark Knight.  It’ll be thought provoking, full of action, and once again show how good comic books actually are.  But the best part about this trailer is…we can understand Bane!!!

In a nutshell, the Batman franchise is, quite frankly, an expertly made set of films that no comic book movie will ever be able surpass…at least not for a few years…

However, the Avengers does have a slight advantage of being much more colorful and vibrant.  There’ll be no dragging around in the dull drums of life with a constant spew of oratorical enlightenment that your average, everyday film viewer can barely comprehend.  Let’s face it, brain power is not a prerequisite for enjoying an Avengers film.

But there’s also this build up that Marvel Studios has been partaking in to help everyone get excited for Marvel’s “greatest superheros” movie.  I suspect that the box office is going to be overwhelmed by the money fans pour into it.

But, as always, there’s the question that lingers with those who persist in maintaining a cynical approach…will these films be let downs?  And it’s true, there is the possibility that neither the Avengers or Dark Knight Rises will live up to their hype.  Being a DC fan, my hope is always that the DC movie ALWAYS beats out the Marvel movie.  So, as a way of supporting my hopes, here’s a wonderful little video by my favorite comic book fan-film maker, Itsjustsomerandomguy, titled “Ways to Screw Up The Avenger’s Movie!”

But what do you think?  Which film will top the box office?  Can Nolan maintain is top dog status, or will the Avengers take it all come this weekend?  There’s a lot riding on this and both companies are hoping for the best.  Give your opinions in the comment section and discuss!

Ok, I know everyone is SUPER excited about the Avengers coming out, but to be honest, I’m  really NOT.  Maybe it’ll be a good movie, and if that’s the case, awesome!  I wasn’t a fan of the Incredible Hulk or the Punisher growing up, but the movies Marvel produced (Ang Lee’s Hulk and the first Punisher) were great!  But with the Avengers, I’m simply not sure how good the story could be.

The Avengers are a group of superheroes equipped with almost all of the exact same powers – with the top supernatural ability being super strength.  They all have the ability to fly or jump really high and are virtually invulnerable.  It’s really hard to create good stories when all of your heroes are indestructible – just look at Superman!  Half of the time his stories are sub par because it’s really tough write stories for a hero that can basically beat anyone.

When the original concoction of the Justice League was formed, each hero served a purpose because of their powers; Superman’s the muscle, Batman’s the brains, Wonder Woman’s the buffer/moralistic center, (as well as the warrior) with all of the others heroes serving a specific purpose because of what their powers allow them to do.  The Avengers don’t have that!  I’m expecting the Avengers to be no better than Iron Man, Thor, or the crappy reboot of the Hulk.  But I do remember everyone liking those films, so I might be left in the minority when it comes to the Avengers.

The Amazing Spider-Man trailer came out recently and it definitely looks lackluster.

Forget the fact that it’s way to soon to have a reboot for the Spider-Man franchise, it simply looks like they’ve tried way to hard to forget the cinematic world Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man.  The Amazing Spider-Man is going to try and be more substantial and “depthy” than the previous films – by way of making the script overly dramatic and agnsty without a lot of the camp that came with Toby MacGuire. I suspect it won’t come off as well as Marvel Studios is hoping it to.

I am glad, however, that they aren’t simply bringing back the Goblin, but rather continuing with what they were going to do and bringing in Doc Conners, AKA the Lizard.  This way there will be at least a semblance of freshness to the rebooted franchise.

Marvel has produced some great films, don’t get me wrong, but it certainly feels like they just pump them out faster than should be.  DC’s been taking their time and it’s mostly paid off, but Marvel keeps trucking along with franchise after franchise, causing me to wonder when they’re going to drive themselves into a world of too many high expectations.
