Superman – The Musical

Posted: June 3, 2012 in DC Comics, Superman

And you thought Superman hit rock bottom with Smallville!  No no no, the last son of Krypton has taken more media hits than any other superhero in history.  It’ll be alright folks, just take it for what it’s worth, and nothing more.  Have some fun with it!  Try and pick out some of the familiar faces!

This is indeed super-cheesy, but rock-bottom? That would be the JMS or Azzarello comic runs! I’ve had the CD of this for years and love the songs.

  2. Martin Gray says:

Sorry, to be clearer, I love the original Sixties Broadway score, which has more songs, lengthier versions of the ones in here, and Chinese acrobats.

lol, I love this musical too. Cheesy, yes, but the songs (as you stated) are fun. However, this isn’t a great production and Smallville runs circles around this.

  3. The Dallas Theatre Center mounted a wonderful revival and *revisal* of this show, with a new book by an actual comic book writer, back in 2010: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/04/theater/04superman.html?_r=2&scp=1&sq=its%20a%20bird%20its%20a%20plane%20its%20superman%20dallas&st=cse. Apparently DC has for some strange reason locked down the new version so it can never be performed again, but maybe if enough Superman fans lobby their reigional theaters, it can have a new lease on life…
